Student well-being program

A unique combination of theory and physical interaction tuned for mental well-being

Why do you need it?

The potential of different mind-body interventions to reduce aggressive behaviors, alleviate mood disorders, and even improve academic achievements is well documented. Accordingly, more and more universities and schools provide their students and staff with such programs, supporting their physical and mental well-being.

What's in it?

With a focus on embodied learning, Mind-Set students' well-being programs integrate mindfulness, martial arts, and neuroscientific theory through a model developed specifically for this purpose. This model was presented in academic conferences and used in different academic programs, including the Erasmus University College (Engaged Citizenship Program, Personal Development Track, and more), the Erasmus University's student well-being program, the Bildung climate school, Amsterdam VU PMT skill course, and others.

How does it work?

The program uniquely integrates neuroscientific theory, mindfulness, embodied practices, and applied methodologies (including martial-arts-derived principles) to create durable behavioral change.

The program includes 6 sessions:

  • Theoretical framework and introduction.

  • Four sessions that are based on the model behind this program, which analyzes our mental well-being according to four main domains.

  • A summary and personal assessment.

Using martial arts elements, you will learn practical tools to regulate your emotional state, support your social interactions, and improve your cognitive skills. You will think, sweat, breathe, and importantly, be aware.

Ideal for

  • University student well-being programs

  • High-schools

  • Educators, therapists, and any individual responsible for Well-Being initiatives

How can we start?

We recommend starting with a pilot workshop. This allows staff and students to:

  • Evaluate engagement

  • Collect feedback

  • Measure impact before scaling

Are there other options?

Of course! Additional programs, lectures, and workshops are always an option, for example:

  • The neurophysiology of mental well-being

  • Deconstructing mindfulness

  • Martial arts as a mental well-being intervention

  • A scientific approach to ice-dipping

Other topics and specific adaptations are tailored according to the needs of your organization.

The Mind-Set model is presented in a keynote lecture at the 2023 autumn conference of the Dutch Scientific Society for Sexology

“I would like to thank my teacher, Guy Shpak, for the meaningful and inspiring martial arts lessons. His way of teaching made every session both educational and enjoyable. I truly appreciated how he created a safe, respectful atmosphere, challenged us in the right moments, and guided us with patience and enthusiasm. These lessons had a real impact on my well-being, and I am grateful for his dedication and the positive energy he brought to every class."
